The lakes in Brădeni
25 km south from Sighișoara, on the road to Agnita, the lakes are popular sport fishing areas (with traditional rods only), but few know that they shelter more than 15% of the total number of bird species known at a national level. This area is one their favorite nesting place, especially for migratory birds coming to the area – the natural lakes’ located in the heart of our destination regularly hosts more than 20,000 migratory water birds. Surrounded by a massive reed belt (3-4 m), it offers a perfect cosy and secluded place, perfect for the new baby birds. Here you can easily observe the purple and grey heron, the great crested grebe or the little grebe, the ferruginous duck (en endangered species), the black stork or the mute swan.
While in Brădeni, don’t miss the traditional saxon chest collection of boxes, located in the evangelical church. the collection has more than 140 boxes („Stollentruhen” in Saxon), some dating from the 16th century. Their function and decorations are different depending on the period they were created, but they all contain interesting religious symbols but also floral, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic motifs. Their historical and cultural value has caused some to be housed in important museums in Europe.
The village of Brădeniul is really worth the trip. It is one of the colorful mosaic pieces from the history, nature and culture of the Transylvanian Highlands.
